People Are Pledging to Protect 750,000 Young People From Deportation

The dream lives on: Donald Trump said nasty things about Latinos during the campaign trail, and as president, he continues to advocate building a wall along the US-Mexico border and has ramped up deportations of undocumented citizens even those without criminal records. In June the Trump administration released a new policy that it wouldn't deport DREAMers a.k.a DACA recipients, undocumented citizens who came to the US as children, but now it looks like he may have a change of heart. Last week, 10 states issued a letter telling Trump to end the program or face a lawsuit. If you are a DACA recipient get ready to take action to ensure your rights. This is not a drill: Kid Rock is best known for his brand of cultural appropriating rap-rock and country music. He's taken a break from insulting Beyoncé and is now hinting at running for the Senate in Michigan as a Republican challenger to Sen. Debbie Stabenow. Kid Rock has said he doesn't really dislike gay people but has wouldn't want to officiate a same-sex wedding and he's also indicated that he's pro-choice but anti-abortion, so his stance on social issues is problematic, to say the least. Despite Stabenow's winning streak in her district since 2000, the current political climate is unpredictable and the Kid could offer her some real competition. Bawitdaba y'all.

The Environmental advocacy group, Sierra Club, has a campaign for mayors to pledge their town to only use renewable energy. Beyond Pride: The activist group No Justice, No Pride gained national attention when they disrupted the Capital Pride parade in DC. Their mission was to create a more inclusive pride that respected the lives of trans people, queer people of color and two-spirit Native Americans amongst other gender and sexual minorities of various identities.

Now, in response to recent attacks on trans women in DC, NJNP is holding a rally and a march today, July 13, at 6:30 PM in Freedom Plaza. They are demanding Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Metropolitan Police Department take action to protect LGBTQ, particularly trans women, from homophobic and transphobic violence. Dam it all: Two former UN ambassadors from Bolivia are reportedly facing charges in their home country after criticizing the development of two big dam projects. Pablo According to Focus on the Global South Solón and Rafael Archondo could be imprisoned for four years for daring to speak out on protecting the environment. Now, a leader of the Council of Canadians and the executive director of Food & Water Watch has sent a letter to Bolivian President Evo Morales advocating for Solón and Archondo.
