Lindsey Jordan's Snail Mail played their first ever full band London show last night (Jordan played solo earlier this year.) About a third of the show saw them playing songs familiar to their audience – the crowd sang along to new ones like "Pristine" and "Heat Wave" and older tracks like "Thinning" with aplomb, much to Jordan's obvious delight – but the rest were unreleased tracks, included on Snail Mail's debut album Lush, which is due for release on 8 June, via Matador. One of those new songs was "Let's Find an Out," for which a studio version has been released today (hear it above.) The track basically puts all of the great things about Snail Mail as a project on display: it features Jordan's extremely accomplished guitar playing, and her extremely affecting singing voice at its most raw, and it's also a great example of how the full band format encourages her musical creations to grow and swell really pleasingly. In the context of Lush, "Let's Find an Out" is a quiet, contemplative moment, set off against some of the more bombastic tracks. I think that a lot of the time, you see a band at its best when it's stripped back a little. If that's true, then this song, made up of only a few, well-placed elements, certainly shows Snail Mail at their very best.Follow Lauren on Twitter.
