Aminata Diallo, a midfielder in Paris Saint-Germain’s women’s team, has been arrested by police following an attack upon a teammate last week.

The 26-year-old was arrested on Wednesday morning.

According to French daily sports newspaper L’Equipe, Kheira Hamraoui was attacked following a team get-together on the 4th of November. Diallo was driving some team-mates home after the meal, when two masked men approached and dragged Hamraoui from the car. The men attacked Hamraoui’s legs with an iron bar before fleeing the scene, according to L’Equipe.

Diallo, a French international, played in PSG’s 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the group stage of the Women’s Champions League on Tuesday. Hamraoui was ruled out due to her injuries.

A statement posted on the club’s website on Wednesday says: “Paris Saint-Germain can confirm that Aminata Diallo was taken into custody this morning by the Versailles Regional Police Service as part of the proceedings opened following an attack on the Club's players last Thursday evening.

“Paris Saint-Germain condemns in the strongest possible terms the violence committed.”

The statement continued: “Since Thursday evening the Club has taken all necessary measures to guarantee the health, well-being and safety of its entire women's team.

“Paris Saint-Germain is working with the Versailles Police to clarify the facts. The Club is paying close attention to the progress of the proceedings and will study what action to take.”
