Philip Glass is turning 75 this year. And that’s a pretty big number with a lot of interesting divisors, so in honor of the occasion, Orange Mountain Music is releasing Rework – Philip Glass Remixed, featuring contributions from Amon Tobin, Dan Deacon, Pantha Du Prince, Nosaj Thing, and Peter Broderick. (If that last name is a blank for you, look up his absolutely perfect solo recordings on Type Records as soon as possible, as well as the bands Efterklang and Horse Feathers.) The banner name however is, of course, Glass collaborator and pal Beck, who delivers the following 20 minutes tracing early Philip Glass to modern avant-pop a la Animal Collective or, in particular, the more recentish modern classical-qua-pop efforts of Deacon.
