This Remix By Miami Producer Marks Sounds like Ryuchi Sakamoto with Sunstroke

"In 2016 there's no point in living like a king if you don't do it from the 'gram."

We're longterm admirers of UK label Coyote, and every new release from them gets us giddier than a 7 year old with an N64 to open on Christmas morning. Metaphorically speaking we're sat right now delightedly tearing the gaudy wrapping off a rumble pack, ready to feel the throb as we prepare ourselves for a five hour Wave Race 64 session, because there's a new Coyote release on the horizon.

Dropping on July 29th, Flight is the new EP from New York based producer Spokes, and it's another smasher from an imprint on a serious roll when it comes to releasing incredibly engaging and unusual tunes that float between grime and club music. Spokes hopped on his bike—get i¿!?—and asked rising star Marks to give the title track a re-rub.

The result sounds like a sunstroke-suffering Ryuchi Sakamoto resting his woozy and weary head on a cooly metallic pillow. We've had it on about 42 times in a row now and we're already looking forward to play 43. In fact, we love Marks' remix so much that we tracked the Miami based producer down to have a quick chat about some of the more pressing issues of the day.

Listen to the track and read the interview below.

THUMP: Marks is a good name. Who or what is your favourite Mark in history?
Marks: Mark Ruffalo? He was great in Zodiac. Though If I have to pick a film and a Mark it'd be The Big Hit with Mark Wahlberg. 1998 was a great year. Does Marcus Aurelius count as a Mark? I've read some of Meditations.

"Flight" is also a good name. Do you think the invention of the aircraft has had a positive impact on humanity in the grand scheme of things?
Absolutely. A lot of us wouldn't be here if it wasn't for easier global travel right? Maybe too many people on the wave now though with these brutal TSA lines and companies nickel and diming you with luggage etc. Let's take further it though, start leaving the planet.

Reckon you could beat up a coyote in a fight?
With knives and shards of glass Liam Neeson The Grey style? ... Maybe. Do coyotes go for the throat first?

Imagine you meet me in Miami I've got a spare six hours to kill and I've found a few hundred dollar bills in the bin outside my hotel. I want to live like a king. Where are we going?
In 2016 there's no point in living like a king if you don't do it from the 'gram. Drinks and food at Fontaine Bleau or Setai, one of those fancy places on south beach with geolocation on so your haters know. Or just get some cheap truck food pocket the rest. The tao says there is nothing like frugality, that to return before straying and double reserves of anything will overcome everything.

If you could live forever, would you do it? Why? Why not?
This is like the hottest summer I can remember experiencing with global warming it's supposed to get warmer right? Fuck that let me off this planet.

The Flight EP is available digitally on Boomkat on July 29th, and arrives on 12" and all other online stores on August 5th. Pre-order it here.
