Pearson Sound Turns in a Hulking Rework of TEACHERS' New Single, "Mannequin in Heat"

The Kanye affiliated band's upbeat original sound is turned on its head.

Four-piece TEACHERS' new single "Mannequin in Heat" might not sound like prime Hessle Audio inspiration. It's a jaunty, danceable pop song featuring lyrics like "take it easy, don't rock the boat, don't you worry now honey, we're still afloat." Sentiments—while admirable—that are quite far removed from the typically dark, introspective soundscapes explored by Pearson Sound. That said, don't let anybody tell you "better together" isn't a winning message! The Hessle-head has turned in a typically hulking, mechanical rework of the band's new single and in the process turned the buoyancy of the original on its head. Put another way, it sounds a bit like blending iron filings into a strawberry milkshake.

TEACHERS' lead singer and experimental producer Ben Bronfman is best known for his work on Kanye West's "Monster" and "New Slaves", but his work with the band is decidedly more upbeat. He says of the original track, "This is one of those tunes that wrote itself, sometimes you struggle to find the right melody, sometimes it just comes through you and all you have to do is get out of the way."

Well, if Bronfman got out of the way, then it's fair to say Pearson Sound crashed directly into it. Listen below.
