Lose Yourself in the Lysergic Bliss of this New TOY Remix by Stereolab's Tim Gane

Gane's Cavern of Anti-Matter project have given psyche-rockers' TOYs new single a brilliantly krauty refix and we've got the exclusive premier.

Some mornings are great. You get up at the right time. The shower temperature is perfect. You spoon just the right amount of sugar on your Frosties. This is one of those mornings, and it just got better because you, yes you, can hear a brand new remix by Tim Gane from Stereolab's Cavern of Anti-Matter project right now. Yes, right now!

Gane and his band of merry man have been given the task of remixing British psyche-rockers TOY's "I'm Still Believing" (which is taken from their forthcoming album Clear Shot which is due next month on Heavenly) and the result is an absolute peach. Gane himself had this to say about the reworking:

"When I got the offer of a new TOY song to remix I immediately chose the track "I'm Still Believing". It's a great pop song and I really love the vocals. I wanted to keep the feel and flow of the song, the catchy melody and synth hook, but I also wanted to change the density and texture of the track; extend it beyond its three minute length and take it to some unknown places. Maybe I was expected to do a krautrock-y kind of mix, but it would have been silly to force that on a wonderful slice of British pop."

The TOY boys loved it too, which is always handy when someone's remixed your work, describing it thus, "We really liked the COA-M remix when we heard it and thought it sounded a bit like Electronic. The second half builds in a really great way with the parts subtly taking over from one another; something with always loved in Tim's music."

We think that the result is a chiming motorik slab of electronic-infused krautrock that, in its own strange way, comes on like British indie darlings Felt trying to cover Chris & Cosey at their lightest. And that's a fantastic thing, obviously. If you've ever wanted to find the perfect record for the final scene of the whimsical kitchen sink drama you've been directing in your head all these years, you're in luck.

Stream it in full below. As a warning, it'll probably make you want to wear duffel coats and NHS specs.

TOY's new album Clear Shot is out on Heavenly Recordings on the 28th of October.
