Anonymous Attacks Wisconsin Cops After Shooting Death of Unarmed Teen

Members of Anonymous are calling for protests outside the homes of police in Madison, Wisconsin, where a white officer was recently released without charges after killing Tony Robinson, an unarmed 19-year-old biracial man.

Under the #Antisec banner, members of the nebulous hacktivist collective have released the names, addresses and phone numbers of 38 officers and others associated with the Madison Police Department via Pastebin, including Matthew Kenny, the officer who fatally shot Robinson inside his apartment last March.

"Greetings Citizens of Madison and Madison Police Department. Thought we left after operation wicp? Guess again cock suckers," the Pastebin message begins. "We call upon all allied battleships, all armies from darkness, to use […] this mighty fine list to wreak unholy havok [sic] upon the buggy roaches of the city."

Another site linked in the document contains the list of names and runs a script which causes visitors to automatically launch DDoS attacks against the website of the City of Madison until a "stop" button is pressed.

Paul Kronberger, the City of Madison's chief information officer, told Motherboard that the information posted by Antisec was "publicly available information" and that no breach of servers has occurred. The DDoS script also doesn't seem to have affected the city's website, and Kornberger claims he was unaware of the attack until Motherboard brought it to his attention.

"Everything is running fine," he said in a phone interview.

Nevertheless, Anonymous' move is likely intended as a show of solidarity. The info dump comes amid ongoing protests in the Madison area, where hundreds of residents took to the streets yesterday after Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne (who is also on the list) declined to press charges against Kenny, calling his killing of Robinson "a lawful use of deadly police force."

Robinson was killed by Kenny in early March after neighbors made several 911 calls reporting Robinson's erratic behavior. A toxicology report later found that Robinson had been under the influence of several drugs including hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Dashcam footage from officer Kenny's patrol car shows him entering the building alone while gripping his firearm, followed by seven gun shots as he stumbles backwards revealing Robinson's feet lying on the ground in the doorway. Kenny claims he heard "yelling and screaming" from inside the apartment and that Robinson attacked him upon entering. He was not wearing a body cam.

An attorney for the Robinson family has also questioned the circumstances of the killing, including why Kenny entered the building before his backup arrived.

Thus far, demonstrations in Madison have remained non-violent. Anonymous similarly urges residents to use their information to protest "peacefully," putting forth a code of conduct instructing them to "stay cool," "stay on public property" and of course, "cover your face."
