Titans' Masterplan to Start Game With an Onside Kick Plan Didn't Go Well

Maybe it was just an act of psychological warfare that created a ripple effect that will help them win the game.

There is a football coach who doesn't punt, goes for every two-point conversion, and only does onside kicks. His name is Kevin Kelley, and he's playing the numbers. It makes sense! It's a kind of moneyball, left-field genius maneuver that gives him a statistical edge. It is important to note, however, that Kelley is the coach of Polaski Academy—a high school. He is not coaching in the NFL.

You know who is in the NFL? The Tennessee Titans—and they better start acting like it. In a surprising decision, the Titans went straight for an onside kick to start out their game against the Packers. Understandably, being fast, capable, reaction-quick professional athletes like they are, the Packers only did a quick stutter before recognizing what was going on and easily recovering the ball.

Lucky for the Titans, Rodgers' crew subsequently went three-and-out to punt. And now the Titans are up 14-0 with a minute and change in the first quarter. So, maybe it was all a part of the masterplan: an act of psychological warfare that created a ripple effect to get them where they are now.
