In 1908, in a small town called La Porte, Indiana, a farmhouse burned to the ground. And with it, a Norwegian woman named Belle Gunness and her three children.

As investigators dug through the property, they found decomposed, dismembered bodies buried in the ground. And with more searching, a more sinister story unfolded from what had been believed to be a tragic fire. Belle, the six-foot-tall widow, had been enticing men to her property through newspaper ads promising love—and then killing them.

On today's podcast, writer Seth Ferranti talks about the mystery of Belle Gunness, also known as Lady Bluebeard, as it appears in Hell's Princess: The Mystery of Belle Gunness, Butcher of Men.
