New Dashboard Video Shows Charleston Shooting Suspect Dylann Roof's Arrest

North Carolina police released video footage taken from a dashcam during Charleston shooting suspect Dylan Roof's arrest last week, along with a recording of the 911 call that resulted in his arrest.

The video shows the June 18 arrest in Shelby, North Carolina, where police caught up with the subject less than 24-hours after fleeing the scene of the crime in South Carolina.

The 21-year-old allegedly opened fire during a bible study meeting at Charleston's historic Emanuel AME Church on June 17 and killed nine people before fleeing the church and eventually crossing into North Carolina. Cops pulled Roof over on US 74, with the footage taken from patrol cars of Officers Scott Hamrick and Mike Myers.

"He was very quiet, very calm. He didn't talk," Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford told the Charlotte Observer on Friday. "He sat down here very quietly. He was not problematic."

Roof waived his extradition rights after the arrest and was transferred back to South Carolina, where he was charged with the murder of all nine victims. He could face the death penalty.

A Charleston judge Friday afternoon set a $1 million bond on a weapons charge against Roof, who has reportedly confessed to gunning down the nine congregants. The judge did not have the authority to set bond on nine counts of murder leveled against Roof, who appeared in court via prison satellite.

The US Justice Department has already opened a hate crime investigation into the shooting and reportedly announced Friday it was also looking into the incident as an act of domestic terrorism.

The victims of last week's shooting included the church's pastor, 41-year-old state Senator Clementa Pinckney. The other victims have been identified by Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten as Cynthia Hurd, 54; Susie Jackson, 87; Ethel Lance, 70; Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, 49; Tywanza Sanders, 26; Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr., 74; Rev. Sharonda Singleton 45; Myra Thompson, 59. Three others survived the massacre.
