Larry David Would Be a Terrible Superhero

The 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' star responds to evil with a resounding "meh" in the first trailer for the highly anticipated new season.

It's been a rough couple of weeks: White supremacists reared their ugly heads, North Korea is getting closer to turning the world into a nuclear ash heap, and—worst of all—Chuck E. Cheese's creepy robot band is breaking up. America could use a savior, some golden, benevolent force of nature who can whisk away all our problems and return this hellhole to some semblance of normalcy. But according to the first full trailer for Curb Your Enthusiasm's ninth season, that hero's name is not Larry David.

HBO dropped the first trailer for the new season on Friday, in which a Gotham-esque metropolis has collapsed into a state of decay. It seems as if evil lurks around every corner, and while there's no evidence of any criminal activity, it's still up to Larry to save the day for some reason. But when a Batman-like spotlight flashes his face into the night sky, our hero responds to the call of duty with a resounding "meh."

The show returns to HBO on October 1 after a six-year hiatus, and all the main cast members—Richard Lewis, Bob Einstein, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, and JB Smoove—are coming back along with it. Season nine also features a host of impressive guest stars, including Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston, Jimmy Kimmel, Carrie Brownstein, Lauren Graham, and Judge Judy, according to the Hollywood Reporter. So grab a lemonade (from your own fridge), toss it on a coaster, and breathe a sigh of relief—for just as the world seemed destined to collapse, good old LD has come back to save us all.

The ninth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm premieres on HBO October 1.
