Kelly Rowland Has Been In the Studio with Syd

The planets, thankfully, have aligned.

What cosmic force do I need to thank for the fact that somewhere, somehow, Kelly Rowland and Syd—of The Internet, of Fin, one of the best albums of 2017—have been working together on a new Kelly Rowland album? Please, honestly, just tell me and I will get on my knees and I will pray to it, because this is a development of the most exciting order.

Speaking to Kosine of Da Internz, with whom she has also been working, on Beats 1, Kelly dropped the bombshell (I guess it's just regular-level cool news to most people but honestly to me it's a bombshell, OK?), discussing her new album for the first time. Of Syd, she said:

"Syd's voice just sucks you in, everything about her is just so effortless. I love working with her in the studio. I think I played that song ["Girl"] at least a thousand times. It makes me feel sexy, feminine, and easy."

Imagining the sounds that they are creating is honestly making me feel like I need to have a nap.

Kelly also spoke of her admiration for other young female R&B artists like Jhené Aiko and SZA, and mentioned that memes can help with her studio process (2017 baby!) In general it's a really sweet interview from a much-loved artist, whose return is long-awaited. And now that I know that her return will involve Syd in some way, I'm pretty impatient, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Listen to the full interview below:
