Clinton slams White House private email use as “height of hypocrisy”

After all the times Donald Trump has slammed Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state— he’s repeatedly painted her as reckless, even treacherous — a new report says plenty of his staff have similarly used private emails for government business.

A New York Times report Monday said several former and current White House aides had used personal devices to conduct official business, while at least six Trump advisers had used private email accounts.

According to the story, private emails were sent or received by former chief strategist Stephen Bannon, economic adviser Gary Cohn, aide Stephen Miller, and Reince Priebus, the former chief of staff.

The disclosures follow a report Sunday in which the lawyer for Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner confirmed his client sent around 100 emails from a private account to conduct official White House business.

According to Politico, Priebus tried to curb the “rampant” use of personal devices by staffers in June, holding a meeting to demand they be secured or left at home.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday staff had been “instructed to use official email to conduct all government-related work.”

The Congressional House Oversight Committee called Monday for the administration to hand over details of any White House staffers who have used private emails for official business.

Hillary Clinton was understandably eager to give her reaction to the reports Monday. “It’s just the height of hypocrisy,” Clinton said in an interview with SiriusXM’s Zerlina Maxwell.
