With two avowed abortion opponents set to take the White House, Planned Parenthood is preparing for deep cuts and open hostility on abortion and family planning services. Vice President-elect Mike Pence has fought aggressively to slash funding for the family planning and health care provider, and President-elect Donald Trump said he would appoint pro-life justices to the Supreme Court with the expectation they would overturn Roe v. Wade.
Planned Parenthood has taken in more than 180,000 donations since Trump was elected last week, and more than 45,000 of those were made in Pence’s name — a protest gesture from abortion-rights proponents. Now the organization has to decide how best to spend the money. VICE News correspondent Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani reports from Washington, D.C., where Planned Parenthood’s leadership team met behind closed doors to mount a counter-attack.
