360º VR Porn Is Great If You Want to Watch Anything But Sex

With Oculus Rift, Project Morpheus, Vive, and other virtual reality headsets coming out soon, a number of companies are already competing for the inevitable virtual reality porn market.

A new start-up called VirtualPorn360 hopes to differentiate itself in this new space by becoming "the first company in the world to broadcast and market pornographic experiences in 360 degrees for virtual reality devices like the Oculus Rift."

Now I know what you're thinking. There's no shortage of virtual reality porn out there already. To name just a few examples, Japanese sex toy maker Tenga is making a kind of robot arm you can bone for more immersive virtual reality experiences, and Chathouse 3D is like World of Warcraft, but for hooking up virtually.

VirtualRealPorn already does something that looks almost exaclty like VirtualPorn360, namely recording real human performers with special cameras for a more immersive experience. The difference is that VirtualRealPorn offers only a 180 degree viewing angle (with the performers being the obvious point of focus), while VirtualPorn360, as its name implies, has a full 360 degree viewing angle.

This means that you can look away from the couple getting it on on the pleather sofa, turn around, and look around the creepy apartment that I'm assuming is used for little else but shooting porn.

It works as advertised! You can download a sample movie from VirtualPorn360's website and see it on your Oculus Rift (there are DK1 and DK2 versions), or watch it above thanks to YouTube adding 360 degree video support earlier this year. Not to be outdone by Google, Facebook will soon let you share these 360 videos with your friends and family thanks to its own 360 video player.

I am not sure why you would want to do this. Conceding Rule 34, which posits that there are people out there that would get off on the ability to look away from the porn and just hear the exaggerated moaning and fleshy flapping while they stare at anything else, this doesn't seem very useful or hot.

Maybe future productions can put you in the center of Caligula-like orgies where you're surrounded by porn no matter where you look, but for now VirtualPorn360 has the same problem a lot of VR companies have. They have the technology, they just don't know what to do with it.
