HALL OF FANDOM: TOP FAN NICKNAMES

In the world of Fandom, a good nickname means everything. It’s an alter ego. It’s what takes them from fan to superfan. There's always a story and it's usually a good one. Here are five of our favorites.

In the world of Fandom, a good nickname means everything. It's an alter ego. It's what takes them from fan to superfan. There's always a story and it's usually a good one. Here are five of our favorites.

#1 PINTO RON

The "Pinto Ron" persona was slowly developed over almost thirty years. The "Pinto" portion is from the car I use as my tailgating vehicle. The "Ron" portion can from an interview I did almost twenty years ago. The article came out with my name wrong. Rather than Ken the author mistakenly called me Ron. Somehow, the people in my immediate tailgate would not let that go, and anytime the media would come by they would talk them into calling me "Ron". After a while I just gave up and "Pinto Ron" came about.

#2 JETBO

"I used to wear various costumes to Jets home games. I've worn green hospital scrubs, calling myself DR JET-KYLL among other things. But I started wearing military camo gear with my green helmet around that time and as I was going up the escalator one game; someone yelled at me, " Yo, JETBO", and that was it."

#3 BIG NASTY

"One day we were going up to our seats and this old lady goes, "You know, you need a nickname. Something big and something nasty!" This lady must've been 80 years old. From that day on Big Nasty was born."

#4 BIRDLADY

"I was anointed "BirdLady" eighteen years ago by Falcon legends. They named me after I interrupted their conversation to ask one of them to dance with me doing his famous "Dirty Bird" routine. When he refused and insisted that I dance, even though I was on crutches, I immediately began shaking my bottom and flapping my arms. They began to laugh; One commented that I was his "Dirty Bird." The other then said, "No, That's our "BirdLady!" I have remained a loyal and recognizable fan ever since."

#5 SUPERFAN

"I always hear people talk about that guy that's called SuperFan. That's a nice feeling, to have people talk about you with respect. I can put on a different outfit and they still know that I'm SuperFan. So that's really nice."
