Berlin's Festival Of Lights Sparks Ebullient Illumination Before Winter Creeps Up

Berlin is already starting to become cold and lugubrious as its notoriously intense winter creeps upon the city. Before it's too freezing to do anything but cuddle up in a bar and drink whiskey, the city engages in its annual Festival Of Lights that almost serves as an end-of-summer sign of respect and transition.

Every October, Berlin becomes a vibrant, ebullient light spectacle. Landmarks, monuments, buildings and more get illuminated via projectors, turning the entire city into a public exhibition space.

The festival is running for the ninth time this year and the patron is the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. With nearly two million annual visitors, Berlin's event is now one of the largest illumination festivals in the world, alongside Lyon, Sydney, and Moscow.

Various events include 3D video mapping, laser animation, and building lighting that makes the structures look like dancing, iridescent life-filled creatures.
