DiCaprio’s Post-Punk Has a More Dramatic Range Than Their Namesake

The Atlanta trio share a tense new song from a forthcoming record.

Atlanta post-punk trio DiCaprio called their debut album I Went to the Mall Yesterday and I Got SickReleased earlier this year, it contained the kind of moody tension and loquaciousness that some compared to the music of Parquet Courts. They were the kind of deadpan songs about living in a society where the people who make your coffee know your first name but your neighbours are suspicious of you.

They are set to release a new 7" on Chunklet Industries and Third Uncle Records that continue their foray into taut and troubled noise.

Listen to the b-side "Hair" and read a brief chat we had with the band.

Noisey: What's Eating Gilbert Grape or The Wolf of Wall Street?
Kyle Swick: We prefer the 1994 classic The Foot Shooting Party. "Shut up Lizard, that's not what I'm saying."

Do you know if there is still going to be that DiCaprio film about the planned coming of the Atlanta Olympics?
We promise you that Leonardo DiCaprio is not competing in the Olympics. Though the Oscar winner does have a plethora of talents, reportedly including rapping, archery is not among them. However he does appear to have a look-alike on the Us Men's Archery Team in Brady Ellison.

What is "Hair" about?
Have you ever been at your grandmother's house in Pennsylvania on the morning of your grandfather's funeral and been trying to fix your hair in the mirror of the basement bathroom and your hair wouldn't stay in place so you used some hairspray to fix it?

What's the best thing about being in a band in Atlanta at the moment?
You get to maybe play shows with good bands like Jock Gang, Mutual Jerk, Nag, Death Stuff, Material Girls, and Nihilist Cheerleader. Also ABRA is from here.

DiCaprio's new album will be available May 10 through Chunklet Industries and Third Uncle Records.
