Mr. G Is Finally Getting the Attention He Deserves

After several decades of solid work, the UK tech house don is preparing to release an EP and album. Check out a track from the EP here.

At long last, it's time for Mr. G's moment in the sun. The UK stalwart has been producing since the '90s, when he was a member of the techno group The Advent, but he's only started to gain widespread recognition in the past few years—somewhere between his legendary Boiler Room set and the retrospective compilation of his solo work that Rekids released in 2013. His post-Advent independent endeavors have appeared under a variety of pseudonyms, including Mango Boy and Tommy Atkins, but his signature style has remained unified and very identifiable. Take, for example, "Tollgate PO (Mango Boy's Red Eye Mix)," which we have embedded for you above. The track draws from Mr. G's usual palette of sounds: heavy drums and low-slung bass provide a relentless forward momentum, and the crispest of crispy hi-hats cradle waves of synth pads and a crushed diva vocal.

"Tollgate" is taken from Mr. G's forthcoming Remote Viewing EP, which drops next week on his own Phoenix G label. It's the precursor to the Personal Momentz LP, which is due out in November.
