Adam McKay's maybe best know for directing Anchorman, Step Brothers, and other vehicles for Will Ferrell to "yes and" his way through another comedy, but the auteur has decided to tackle something a little more weighty this time around—a star-studded drama about the 2008 financial crisis based on Michael Lewis's book, The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine. A trailer just dropped today, and it looks surprisingly promising.

The film, also called The Big Short, is due out in theaters this Christmas and stars Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, and Brad Pitt looking especially Robert Redford-y.

It's going to be interesting to see how the guy responsible for that cursing landlord baby video can tackle the dark depths of modern banking, but it seems like he might really pull it off. Give it a watch.
