The next chair of the Democratic National Committee will be in charge of creating a presidential nominating process that Democrats can believe in after the bumpy 2016 primary. For the past few weeks, Democrats have held DNC Future Forums across the country to campaign for the next chair.

These forums feel far removed from the energy of the women’s marches and immigration ban protests erupting in the streets. Especially because the front-runners for the next chair of the DNC were all absent from the women’s marches. Instead, they were in Florida at a high-ticket fundraiser.

Evan McMorris-Santoro went to the Future Forum in Detroit to ask DNC chair candidates how they plan to bridge the gap between the establishment and the grassroots movements happening outside.
