With a U.S. tour lined up for August and his remix of Yousef & Bontan's "Believe" due today on Circus Recordings, THUMP had a chance to sit down with yet another promising act in dance music to chat about his prolific summer.

THUMP: How did this remix come about?
Denney: I've been friends with Yousef for around 10 years now and we have talked about me doing a remix for Circus for awhile. However, we both wanted to make sure it was at the right time with the right track. He approached me with the idea of remixing one of the tunes from his new album and this was the one that really stood out for me. Circus have put out some amazing music over the years. Really happy to be releasing with them.

What have you added to the original track in your reworking?
I really liked the vocal and instantly thought I wanted to make something quite dreamy and trippy, which would be perfect to play as the sun comes up after a long night of partying. I added a large bassline with lots of little melodies and noises that work around the vocal. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

You've recently been signed to VIVa MUSiC and are a resident at Steve Lawler's VIVa Warriors every Sunday at Sankeys Ibiza. How's the residency going for you? Any standout moments of the summer yet?
It's amazing, the club has been getting stronger and stronger every week. The crowd is so up for it! The standout so far was two weeks ago when I had to cover for Detlef after he missed his flight. The basement was at capacity after 20 minutes. Sorry Detlef, you missed a blinder! [Laughs]

Are there any specific venues that you're looking forward to most on your upcoming U.S. tour from August 5th-9th?
I'm looking forward to all the spots and also checking out some new places I have never been before. Also, I look forward to returning to some of my favourite cities in the world like San Francisco and NYC.

How do you feel an American crowd will differ in comparison to the ones you are used to playing for in the UK and in Europe?
It's like anywhere in the world. Crowds are slightly different but no matter where you go, there is always a core crew of people who are into the music and love having a rave. I'm definitely playing a lot of my new music out there though, which they won't have heard.

This feels like a proper U.S. expedition where you're hitting very key cities. What would you say your relationship is like with influential American destinations like New York, Chicago, etc?
Absolutely! My biggest inspirations, when I started out, were Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and the whole Chicago Boompty sound. I am also friends with guys like Derrick and Justin Long who still live in Chicago, so there is a connection there. But then on the flip side, I also love DJs such as Danny Tenaglia and Roger Sanchez, plus I'm friends with the Nervous Records. So again, I have a connection there too. These cities are where house music came from so they are without question a massive inspiration in what I do.

'Release' is out today on Beatport, you can purchase the EP here.

Upcoming Tour Dates:
August 5 at Clinic, LA
August 7 at Audio, San Francisco
August 8 at Vinyl, Denver
August 9 at George Boat Party, Chicago
