Blackhawks' Richard Panik Records Weirdest Assist of NHL Season

And surely the strangest of his career.

This article originally appeared on VICE Sports Canada.

Weirdest assist of the season isn't usually a title that NHL players chase on a regular basis, but whether he wants it or not, Richard Panik now holds the belt.

As Panik was driving to the net in the second period of Chicago's 3-2 loss to Boston on Sunday, he was hit by Bruins defenceman Brandon Carlo and went crashing into the goal. After Blackhawks forward Artemi Panarin picked up the puck following a lucky ricochet off the end boards, Panik was struck with a quick snapshot from Panarin right off the shoulder.

After a second-straight fortuitous bounce sent the puck back to Panarin once again, he made no mistake on the rebound attempt, putting it in the net this time over a befuddled Panik as he was down on all fours inside the net.

It was Panaran's 29th goal of the season and, though it was assist No. 21 of the campaign for Panik, that inside-the-net shoulder pass is definitely the strangest helper of his career.
