Barcelona Clinch La Liga Title by a Point, Thanks to Luis Suarez Hat Trick

A hat trick today, 14 goals in the last five games, and a cool, league-topping 40 goals on the season.

Great build up on this @FCBarcelona goal. Take another look. #LaLiga https://t.co/HvyWlVtYaz

The end of La Liga came down to a hairline margin of victory for the title champions Barcelona with a one-point difference over Real Madrid. But they owe that season-long victory to a far more impressive set of numbers put out by a certain Luis Suarez—namely, a hat trick today, 14 goals in the last five games, and a cool, league-topping 40 goals on the season. Lordy-me.

Yes, it was a helluva season for Suarez, the Uruguayan striker oft maligned for his badboy status, and his person-biting antics. But this season marked not only a statistical turning point in his career, but also a moment to turn a new leaf. He has embraced his teammates—especially in best buds Neymar and Messi—minimized the bullshit on the pitch, and has gotten behind a team he seems to love. And he certainly returned that love today.

The theme of Suarez's brilliant hat trick might as well have been "poaching," as he made some sneaky runs along the back door of Granada's back line. His first goal (above) was earned after he caught his defender taking a huge nap just on the inside of the 18-yard box.

But perhaps Suarez's most aesthetically pleasing poach of the day came from his second goal. He owes a good deal to a brilliant cross from Dani Alves, taken with pace on a ball that was nanoseconds from crossing the back line. Alves could very well have picked out a hair on Suarez's head, as the ball caught him in stride for a beautifully fluid header.

GOOOOOAAAAL!!@LuisSuarez9 may very well have secured title with this header. 0-2 @FCBarcelona. #LaLiga https://t.co/GB3zHrQ6dR

Suarez's last goal may as well have been gift-wrapped by Neymar, who could have easily taken a step around the keeper for a tap-in. But instead, Neymar wanted to repay his clubbing buddy and round out his season on the highest of high notes.

GOOOOAAAALL!
And there it is!!! @LuisSuarez9 with a hat-trick and @FCBarcelona with its 24th @LaLiga title. #LaLiga https://t.co/XMWiwr9qys

Who wouldn't love this team? They're producing the kind of soccer that we'll be talking about for decades to come. Old-man-yelling-at-kids-from-their-porch vibes. And now you can tell those damn whippersnappers that back in your day, you watched Suarez get 40 goals. Uphill in the snow. Both ways.
