The Jets are Reportedly Turning to Geno Smith

Whatever.

Adam Schefter is reporting that the New York Jets will bench turnover machine Ryan Fitzpatrick for Geno Smith. I mean, whatever. Does it even matter at this point? The Jets went through the toughest portion of their schedule—though they still have two games left against Tom Brady and the Patriots—and played to a 1-5 record, including mind-numbing losses to the Chiefs, Steelers, and most recently, the Arizona Cardinals. The season is, effectively, over. Does it matter if it's one turnover machine or another taking the snaps? What this Jets fan presupposes is: probably not?

Who knows, maybe Geno comes in and the Jets start putting together a string of games against this now much more friendly schedule and everyone has hope going into the next season. Maybe he goes undefeated the rest of the way and they make the playoffs. Or maybe the Jets reach new and ever deeper levels of whaaaaaat theeeeee fuuuuuuuuccccckkk. The world is literally their oyster.

As longtime Jets fan Jimmy Newell told me this morning, "I've been watching them too long now to get angry, it's almost like a despondency, being a Jets fan."
