Bannon calls Trump a “great man" hours after White House savaging

“You know I support him day in and day out.”

Steve Bannon called Donald Trump a “great man” Wednesday hours after his former boss publicly accused the Breitbart chief of losing his mind.

Bannon hosted Breitbart News Tonight on Sirius XM radio after a day of high drama in which quotes from the former White House strategist calling senior members of the Trump’s campaign team "unpatriotic" caused a sensation.

Bannon initially appeared to ignore the elephant in the room, however eventually took a question about Trump’s statement slamming his former ally.

“The president of the United States is a great man,” Bannon replied. “You know I support him day in and day out.”

And that was it. In two hours of broadcasting.

Bannon is scheduled to be back on air Thursday morning to co-host the Breitbart News Daily morning show from 6 a.m. ET.

The Breitbart executive chairman may have been circumspect about furthering his comments published in Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House due to the cease-and-desist letter sent by the Trump’s attorney late Wednesday.

Excerpts from the book were published in the Guardian, including Bannon’s claim that the Trump Tower meeting attended by Donald Trump Jr. and a group of Russians during the campaign was “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.”

“They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV,” Bannon told Wolff.

In reply, Trump issued a blustery statement claiming his former chief strategists had “nothing to do with me or my presidency.”

“When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,” Trump said.

Donald Trump Jr. also hit out at Bannon Wednesday in a series of angry tweets.

Some are casting doubt on Wolff’s account, citing previous cases where his words were challenged by those involved.

However, Bannon has said nothing yet to question the veracity of the quotes.
