Looks Like Daniel Craig Isn't Done With Bond After All

Which means we won't see Idris Elba as 007 anytime soon.

Daniel Craig, an actor who for whatever reason is clearly tortured by the demands of starring in a multi-million dollar British film franchise that asks him to court the world's most beautiful women while smoothly killing bad guys, has reportedly signed on for his fifth Bond movie—despite famously declaring that he "would rather slash his wrists" back in 2015.

Which means, for my fellow Idris Elba fans, that our dream is dead. At least for now.

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli told The Mirror earlier this week that she'd managed to secure Craig for another round, and filming for the 25th Bond film would begin next year. Which is all a bit of a surprise because, in that revealing interview with Time Out two years ago, Craig essentially said that he hated playing Bond and would only be convinced to do so again if lured with vast amounts of money. Craig implied that he had washed his hands of the franchise post-Skyfall and didn't particularly care who played Bond next, saying "Look, I don't give a fuck. Good luck to them!"

While The Mirror isn't the most trustworthy source of Hollywood news, another Craig-starring Bond movie has never been completely out of the question. The actor has only starred in four Bond movies to date, despite being reportedly signed to a five-film contract. And producers would be keen to sign him on—his turn in Skyfall grossed $1.1 billion at the international box office, and was the second-highest earning film of 2012. 2015's Spectre was similarly lucrative. Source told The Mirror that more tried-and-true faves will be returning to Bond 25, including Adele—who earned a Grammy, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award for the theme tune to Skyfall. It looks like producers are going with a formula that they know will work, despite speculation that Idris Elba or Tom Hardy would be next to play 007. Elba was notably criticised by the current author of the James Bond novels, Anthony Horowitz, back in 2015 when all the Craig-quitting speculation began. The author told the Daily Mail that he found Elba "too street" and "not suave enough" for the role, meanwhile insisting his comments had nothing to do with race.

The promise of a new Bond actor lingers, but for now it looks like we're getting Daniel Craig making serious faces in a suit with Adele singing in the background. And we're probably going to love it.
