A man in Saskatchewan has received a two year suspended sentence for threatening to blow Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s head off.

On Facebook, Derek Hurrell, a 34-year-old man from Borden, Saskatchewan, wrote: “I just want to take a gun to Justin Trudeau’s fucking head and blow his head off. It would be a service to Canada :-) :-) :-)”

Hurrell’s comments were first flagged by, for some reason, RCMP in New Brunswick who then alerted the national branch—he was arrested in May and plead guilty. During his court appearances, Hurrell was accompanied and protected by members of the group Heaven’s Hellions—a patriot like group similar to the Soldiers of Odin. Heaven’s Hellions describe themselves as a “conservative community organization” that seeks to help downtrodden citizens.

It is not known if Hurrell is/was a member of the group or if they were just supporting the man.

Global News reported that, during the trial, Hurrell’s lawyer said that the man was remorseful for his actions, saying that “when people go on to social media, some of the filters tend to come off and it tends to be a situation where people say things they wouldn’t normally say in the course of their everyday lives.”

This is the second time in 2017 that someone from the Land of the Living Skies has been arrested for uttering threats against the Prime Minister. In February, Christopher Hayes was found guilty of the same charge as Hurrell. Hayes was given nine month probation, a $500 fine, and banned from attending the same events as Trudeau.

“It's important for the public to know that criminal charges may be laid if evidence is obtained to support them,” Rob Cameron, a RCMP officer with the federal crime unit, said at the time of the charge. “We do not take these investigations lightly and we cannot speculate whether or not someone may or may not act on alleged threats made."

Hayes posted three comments on Facebook which were put forward by the crown in order to get a guilty plea. In them he calls for a revolution and states that he believes Trudeau is a Muslim—a recurring conspiracy on the far-right in Canada.

“Imma buot to go shoot this mother fucker dead,” read one of Hayes comments.

“I will start the wheels of a revolution in Canada real fucking soon. RCMP, if you have any balls at all, stop creeping my Facebook pages and start arresting not me but Notley and Trudeau for crimes against the Canadian people,” reads another.

For Hurrell, he received a two year suspended sentence for uttering the threats. As a part of the sentence he can no longer use social media unless he is looking for work and cannot own any explosives or firearms.
