There Is No Antidote for Rabies' Infectious Indie Rock

The new Halifax band ticks all the boxes when it comes to melodic pop born from sadness, frustration and confusion.

Rachel Fry plays bass in excellent Halifax band Surveillance. A few years ago, she began writing songs with the intention of recording them as Rabies, a solo home project. But after enlisting the help of some friends – including Surveillance bandmate Dave Burns – a band was born.

Setting up last summer in Fry's living room, kitchen and bathroom the band recorded a number of songs that now appear on Fry's debut album What You Know About Me.

While the band name may infer heavy hardcore punk, Fry's songs lean heavily on the fuzz and melody of 90s indie rock. Opening track "Rabid" has a strong Goo/Dirty era Sonic Youth vibe while the following track "Chance", takes on vocal melody that wouldn't seem out of place on an early Juliana Hatfield or Allison Crutchfield album.

Released on Surveillance's ownVarious RecordsWhat You Know About Me is a strong album of melodic pop born from sadness, frustration and confusion.
