My God, the Lions avoided a nightmarish loss against Green Bay at Lambeau Field today and Jim Caldwell is out of his mind with excitement! We know he is prone to get a little turned up, but Caldwell was simply raving with delight after Mason Crosby borked a 52-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds of the game.The Packers got within two points of the Lions with 32 seconds left, but Detroit looked like they were going to hold on when they stopped Green Bay's two-point conversion attempt. All the Lions needed to do was recover an onside kick and…oh, no.
All that was flashing through my mind as I watched one-man hands team Calvin Johnson drop the onside-kick were Martha Ford's words to Lions fans earlier in the week: "You deserve much better." When Calvin Johnson is dropping big old floating meatballs, it might be time to rethink your team allegiances. The Packers recovered the kick at the Lions 49-yard line and hit a couple pass plays to set up a 52-yard field goal attempt with five seconds left. Miraculously, Crosby hit a duck and the Lions held on for an 18-16 win.
I just hope someone gave Caldwell some Bayer after the game.[CBS]
