Matt Barnes Allegedly Choked a Woman, Punched Two Other People in NYC Nightclub Fight

Police are looking for Matt Barnes after he reportedly choked one woman in a nightclub and punched two other intervenors.

Matt Barnes and the Sacramento Kings were in New York City this weekend to play the Knicks on Sunday. After the 106-98 loss, Barnes and some teammates, including DeMarcus Cousins, went out to a local nightclub. It seems Barnes got into a fight with some patrons and, according to TMZ, choked one woman, and punched two other people when they tried to break it up. USA Today confirmed that NYC police are investigating the incident. TMZ has video of the immediate aftermath, as Barnes and his teammates spilled out of the bar.

Police received reports that a man inside a Chelsea neighborhood club choked a woman and two others --- a man and a woman --- were assaulted as they attempted to intervene. Footage of the incident obtained by investigators appears to show Barnes was the assailant, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who is not authorized to speak publicly because the investigation is ongoing.

Most of the Kings players seem pretty pleased with themselves in the TMZ video, with Cousins sounding particularly happy about the whole thing, despite constantly rubbing, shaking out, and inspecting his right hand.

Barnes is obviously no stranger to violent altercations, most notably getting into a fight with former teammate Derek Fisher because the then Knicks head coach was dating his estranged wife, Gloria Govan. Barnes allegedly became angry when his two sons told him Fisher was at Govan's house so he drove out there, interrupted a party with over ten people, including his sons, and proceeded to fight Fisher in front of everyone, leaving him with some scratches on his face. After an investigation, the NBA suspended him two games for the incident.

Police wanted to question Barnes, however he and his teammates left before police arrived.
