Nashville, Metro Arts, and a power pole company teamed up to bring the largest and most expensive public art piece America’s Music City has ever seen. The colossal sculpture, entitled Stix, consists of 30 cedar poles measuring approximately 70' in height. Painted in bold rings of various sizes in gradients of blue and orange and arranged at erratic angles, the cylindrical structures form a Seussian, sculptural forrest.
The project is based off a design from artist Christian Moeller and, since Metro cleared the project’s price of $750,000, has been a magnet for criticism. The design cleared all potential hurdles or settbacks, however, and the official installation of the project will begin on Monday.
