NON Records co-founder, Nkisi, uploaded a high energy, electro barrage to her SoundCloud yesterday. Melding together fragments of electro and deep techno, the London-based artist's music is imbued with a distinct outsider quality, putting an emphasis on the sense of detachment from the African roots at the core of the NON collective.In a recent profile of Chino Amobi and the NON crew, THUMP's Colin Joyce highlighted the punk ethos and politically engaged nature of the collective's releases. Nkisi's latest release is in keeping with this philosophy. Clocking in at 141 bpm, "MOKONZI" is a ready-for-the-floor jam with a complex flavor: forceful, demented and oppositional.
