When the Woj whispers rumors, you better listen. Yahoo's ever-breaking-news reporter Adrian Wojnarowski has dug up some dirt from anonymous sources that New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing is being considered for a head coaching position at his alma mater, Georgetown. The Hoyas' former coach, John Thompson III, was fired on Thursday after 13 seasons on the job.Ewing, currently assistant head coach for the Charlotte Hornets, started his coaching career immediately after retiring in 2002 and has been assistant coach to the Washington Wizards, the Houston Rockets, and his former team the Orlando Magic.Ewing has been rumored to be a major candidate for NBA head coaching positions, but a return to rebuild his former college team may prove tempting. Georgetown has fallen in the past few years under the watch of Thompson—who also happens to be the son of Ewing's former coach, John Thompson Jr.—and failed to make the NCAA tournament three of the last four years.According to Woj, "Some of Ewing's most trusted professional and personal friends are beginning to encourage him to consider the job and have already started brainstorming candidates to create an elite college coaching staff to surround and support him." That could include Ewing's son, Patrick Ewing Jr., who already is part of the Georgetown coaching staff.Who knows how this will end, but for fans of the Big East's 1980s glory days, the prospect of Ewing returning to Georgetown is an interesting one.
