Colin Cowherd Apologizes to Pedro Martinez by Comparing him to 'Rain Man'

Colin Cowherd is basically incapable of not sounding like a jackass. Witness: his "apology" to Pedro Martinez.

Colin Cowherd gave an interview to The Hollywood Reporter in which he confirms his move to Fox Sports 1 and that he "chose his words very poorly" when he said some stupid shit about Dominicans not being smart. Putting aside for a moment that a man who is paid to speak words into a microphone for a living seems to always be apologizing for his word choice, let's get into the meat of this interview.

The interview begins with a bang because he was asked "what precipitated" his move from ESPN to FS1. Colin Cowherd did not say "Oh, you know, it was just time." No, Colin Cowherd said "Pat Riley says every 10 years you probably should change jobs." I'm kinda like legendarily successful coach and team architect Pat Riley, so it was time to go. It gets better.

As it turns out, we have double confirmation of that poor word choice because in speaking about his comments, and the backlash from folks like Pedro Martinez, he described the recent Hall of Fame inductee as a baseball Rain Man. THR asked Cowherd if he had spoken to anyone from the league following his comments and he responded:

No, I'd love to reach out to Pedro Martinez. I had him on my show about three or four months before I left. There is a Rain Man quality to his baseball knowledge. He was an incredible guest.

Rain Man, if you aren't aware is a Tom Cruise/Dustin Hoffman vehicle where Hoffman plays Cruise's older brother who is—I bet you can guess—autistic. Hoffman's character is incapable of interacting with people on a human level, but can do crazy things like count every single toothpick that just spilled on the floor. He has a disability coupled with an inexplicable skill. For all the ways to describe and explain Pedro Martinez's "baseball knowledge" in the wake of claiming baseball isn't complex because a lot of Dominicans play it—Hall of Fame career, 18 years in the league, broadcaster, he is, you know, a smart and thoughtful man—Colin goes with "idiot savant."

Hearing all of that, who here is the idiot savant?
