Portland Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson and defender Liam Ridgewell were both arrested in Oregon on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants Monday night. Police officers were responding to an alert from the emergency system of Gleeson's BMW after he rear-ended another car. In the interim, Gleeson compounded the problem by calling his teammate and captain, Ridgewell, to come pick him up. Police did field sobriety tests on both men, and they both were charged with DUII. The driver of the other car left uninjured and will not face any charges.The Oregonian has more from Lake Oswego Police spokesperson Sgt. Tom Hamann:"Gleeson faces accusations of DUII, reckless driving and reckless endangerment, Hamann said. Ridgewell faces a DUII accusation, he said. Their cases will go to a Lake Oswego municipal court for hearing, scheduled for Nov. 16."Both men also refused to take a breath test, and they were cited for that too, Hamann said. Through the field sobriety tests, officers found enough evidence for the arrests and did not perform blood tests, Hamann said."Under Oregon law, the refusal to take a breathalyzer will cost both players their driver's license for at least a year, and they could also face a separate fine.Gleeson and Ridgewell were booked in Clackamas County Jail earlier this morning and released after posting $7,500 bonds. The Timbers are aware and are "in the process of gathering information on the matter."[Oregonian]
