Yesterday afternoon, retired Baltimore Ravens tight end Todd Heap was moving his truck forward in his driveway in Mesa, Arizona, when he accidentally struck his 3-year-old daughter. Police responded to a car/pedestrian accident at 3:45pm in the gated community of Las Sendas, and Heap's daughter was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to ESPN.Police have ruled out the possibility of impairment as a factor in the accident, and determined that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.Heap, 37, was voted in to the Pro Bowl twice—2002 and 2003—while playing with the Ravens for nine years. In 2011 -2012, Heap joined the Arizona Cardinals for a couple of seasons before retiring. Heap and his wife Ashley live in Heap's former hometown, and had five children—the daughter in question was his youngest.The Todd Heap Family Pediatric Center opened in 2010 in Baltimore, with Heap raising over $1 million for the hospital. While with the Ravens, Heap also ran a charitable foundation that raised money to help sick and disadvantaged children.The Ravens released a statement, offering their condolences:"We cannot imagine the heartbreak and sorrow Todd and Ashley's family feels right now. This is knee-buckling news and overwhelmingly sad tragedy. Our prayers, our thoughts and our hearts are with the Heaps, who have contributed so much to the Ravens and Baltimore community."
