Read: Kit Harington Was Allegedly Spotted on the Set of 'Game of Thrones'

As Bran Stark's eyes roll back in his head, he says, "They have no idea, what's going to happen." He's presumably talking about the people of Westeros, but the whole new teaser for Game of Thrones is really taunting us in our ignorance.

Season six will be the first time that book readers like me are clueless. We're pretty sure that Jon Snow is alive because he's been spotted on set, he's featured on the poster for season six, and now plays a prominent role in the new teaser. Yes, we see him bleeding out in the snow again, but we've already covered that. Either he's back or HBO is paying Kit Harington to troll us.

In the new teaser, the voiceover might as well be talking to fans. As Snow stares pensively at the camera, a disembodied British voice says, "We watch, we listen, and we remember. The past is already written. The ink is dry." Some optimists might take this as a signal that Martin has finished his book. The camera cuts to scenes of carnage and shock. Olly stabs Jon. The blade descends towards Ned Stark's neck. Ice. Fire. Dragons. The Night King raises the dead. Jon's blood flows black on the snow, and then Bran delivers his cryptic warning.

It's true. We have no idea what's going to happen, and I almost hope Martin's ink is not yet dry and that the new novel will be delayed. Then the show could be free from the shackles of the books and fans will no longer be waiting for particular scenes, ready to cry foul when something is changed. Instead, they can experience the show as totally new narrative. Ignorance has never felt so much like bliss.
