Here’s What’s on Danny Brown's Totally Weird 'Easter Pizza'

If you've ever contemplated dumping an Easter basket full of chocolate and jelly beans on a pizza, you were probably stoned.

Or in Danny Brown's case, trying to help out a good cause (…and also probably stoned). The rapper, who was born and raised in Detroit, has partnered with one of the city's all-ages arts venues on a tasty campaign to raise money for a local nonprofit dedicated to introducing poetry and creative writing to young people.

The culinary collaboration comes from the mind of Matt Z, head chef of El Club and drummer of the band Tyvek, who has teamed up with other Michigan artists in the past to create unique pizzas for charitable causes.

As for Brown's speciality pies, the pair created sweet and savory options, including an Easter Bunny-inspired pizza with peanut butter, chocolate, and jelly beans. The duo's savory creation is a "mystery meat" pie made with liver and onions, which the rapper originally hoped to make with another mysterious protein. "Danny threw out liver and gizzards as meat options," the venue tells Pitchfork, but "Pepe Z," as the chef is known, "tried to put the gizzards on the pie, but the pairing was not compatible."

Brown's inital foray into the culinary arts—which comes shortly after the release of the video for his single "Ain't It Funny"—follows the lead of other food-focused rappers from Snoop Dogg, to MF Doom, to Action Bronson of MUNCHIES' own Fuck That's Delicious.

All proceeds from the rapper's one-of-a-kind pizzas, which will be available at El Club throughout April, will be donated to InsideOut Detroit, a non-profit educational organization "for K-12 students in Detroit who are curious about exploring their worlds through the power of poetry". Whether that justifies eating jelly beans on pizza—well, that's up to you.
