What's been going in Michael Phelps' head has been one of the biggest fascination of this year's Olympic Games. Between the death stares, Jedi-like hood wearing, and those large red circles all over his body, the most-decorated Olympian's every move has been agonized over. Thankfully, however, we have the answer to one of the mysteries—what he's been listening to in those headphones he's been seen everywhere wearing. In a short video interview for NBC, the recently-retired gold medal swimmer dropped IDs from his pre-plunge playlist like Young Thug, "old-school" Eminem, as well as how he puts it in the chat: "What's that one? Promises? Yeah, Nero and Skrillex—EDM." He also name drops Steve Aoki—"old school Aoki, in the mix, from 2008," to be more specific—as well as (old) Lil' Wayne.

So perhaps it's the dirty dubstep blaring of Sonny Moore that's responsible for Phelps' infamous mean mug—or is it his bass face?—that became the subject of so many memes this past week in Rio. Check out the video interview here.
