NORTHMIX: Night Talk

A human voice occasionally filters through, it's presence a reminder of persistent loneliness.

Spacious and minimal, Swiss DJ Night Talk's NORTHMIX is the perfect accompaniment for stargazing. It gives a sense of motion, but not like shaking your sweaty limbs out in a club. "I didn't want to make a mix I would usually do for the dancefloor," says Night Talk. "The mix is like a train ride where you travel through different landscapes."

Like Kraftwerk's "Trans-Europe Express" before it, the image of a train crossing international boundaries seems well suited to the futurist conceits of electronic music. Night Talk too has been doing his fair share of travel, with a series of gigs throughout Europe.

His most recent release, the Dark Matter EP, released in July 2015, hints at the catatonic sonic qualities you'll hear today.

The mix progresses from kick-drum driven tech-house to more ambient realms of electronic with very few organic elements. A human voice occasionally filters through, like a ghost in the machine, its presence a reminder of persistent loneliness.

In Highlander, Sean Connery asks, "Why does the sun come up, or are the stars just pinholes in the curtain of night?"

This is deep thought music.
