Not everyone is a fan of Dennis Rodman’s heartfelt advocacy on behalf of North Korea, but President Donald Trump apparently is.

VICE News was there when White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders personally thanked Rodman in a phone call on behalf of the president.

“Well, I just wanted to call in. The president had seen some of your comments over the last several days, and he just wanted me to reach out and thank you for some of the positive things you said and appreciate you, being helpful in this process,” Sanders said. We're not quite sure what comments she meant, but Rodman was in Singapore during the summit and has expressed support on Twitter and elsewhere for Donald Trump over the past several days. He even got emotional when discussing the summit on CNN.

In the thank-you call, Sanders then goes on to say that she will attempt to set up an opportunity for the former NBA star to shake the president’s hand.

Rodman has been a fierce advocate of North Korea since he first visited the Hermit Kingdom in 2013 with VICE. The famous basketball player’s relationship with the regime has grown ever more controversial with each of his visits over the years.

At the historic summit with Kim Jong Un in Singapore Tuesday, Trump became the first U.S. president to shake hands with the North Korean leader. The White House did not respond to VICE News’ request for comment.
