Miguel Harmonizes with Butterflies in This Exclusive New 'Earthworks' Clip

Earthworks is VICELAND's three-part environmental series with your favorite musicians that takes a compelling, musical approach to immediate environmental issues. It combines tunes and activism in some of the world's most beautiful but sensitive places, and spotlights local front-line organizations.

In this week's episode, VICE tags along with singer-songwriter Miguel and his family as they return to his father's hometown of Zamora, Mexico. While there, the fam gets the low-down on authentic Mexican cuisine, the environmental significance of a local butterfly sanctuary, and how the these tiny insects have a gigantic effect on the region's crop biodiversity. Most importantly, it brings some much needed attention to dangerous trends impacting fragile ecosystems.

In the previous episode, experimental pop godfathers Animal Collective explored the Brazilian Rainforest before it's lost to deforestation -- and recorded some heady ambient sounds while they were at it. In the upcoming episode, LA-based indie rockers Local Natives pack up their gear and dive head first into the ecological problems of the Colorado River.
