A recent report by the Associated Press states that Drake did not submit his 2017 playlist More Life to be considered for the 2018 Grammys. A person "close to the nomination process" also alleges that Drake did not submit any individual tracks from the project to be considered either. The April-released project has spent 31 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number one.

Back in March, the Toronto superstar sat down with London's DJ Semtex for one of his most candid interviews in recent memory. During the conversation, he revealed that he had resented winning Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Hotline Bling" because the single was not a rap song and that it was likely categorized as such because "I've rapped in the past or because I'm black." In October of 2016, Frank Ocean similarly withheld Blonde and Endless from Grammy consideration, mentioning on Tumblr that the show's cultural bias needed to be addressed.
