King Krule's New Song Sounds Like Joe Strummer Fronting 90s Radiohead

He debuted "The Locomotive" at Primavera over the weekend, saying it's due to appear on his upcoming album.

Archy Marshall AKA King Krule AKA Edgar the Beatmaker AKA The Return of Pimp Shrimp or whatever you want to call him has become an almost cult figure in recent years. It's not that he doesn't share new music, it's just that he does it so quietly and infrequently, yet so effortlessly and brilliantly, that when it happens, it causes everyone to stop what they're doing and pay attention.

All of which is to say, he performed at Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona this past weekend (no, I didn't go either, and yes, I had to experience it vicariously through other people's Instagram stories, which I squinted at on my tiny phone screen while straining my ears to pick up the tinny sound). During his set he debuted a brand new track called "The Locomotive" and, I don't mean to alarm anyone lads, but it's pretty good. Pretty, pretty good. It's sounds kind of like Radiohead in the 90s, if Radiohead weren't quite as dry and they were fronted by Joe Strummer and sounded like something that would and should come out in 2017. It's bleak, it's beautiful and Krule's distinctive vocals will drive a metaphorical drill straight through your heart.

Before playing the set, apparently Krule told Pitchfork that "The Locomotive" will appear on his upcoming album, for which he is yet to announce a release date. We'll be waiting and smashing replay for the timebeing.
