Taking drugs isn't a fringe activity, it's one of the most common illegal things we do. But in our eagerness to either celebrate or criticise drugs, we often sweep the ethics aside.

Why should we care about the ethical implications of smoking weed or doing a line of coke? Well, according to the most recent National Drug Strategy Household Survey, 42 percent of Australians over 14 have tried illicit drugs. Probably most people in the room have. Taking drugs isn't a fringe activity, it's one of the most common illegal things we do. But it raises broad questions of ethics: from consent to the responsible education of kids, from supply chain and the policing of drug use. In our eagerness to either celebrate or criticise drugs, we often sweep the ethics aside.
