Electric Forest Now Needs Two Weekends for All the Festivities

Double the Forest, double the fun.

After adding a female-only campground for its 2016 edition, big changes are still underway for Electric Forest. Organizers of the Rothbury, Michigan festival have announced that it is expanding to two weekends in 2017.

The news comes direct from Electric Forest's official website, which detailed the logistics of the back-to-back extended weekenders taking place June 22–25 and June 29–July 7. The team's goal, they write, is to "preserve intimacy and integrity while welcoming new friends," so though an extra weekend has been added, each event will have its capacity reduced ten percent from this year's festival.

They also promise that the lineups for each event will be different: some artists will only play one of the two weekends, and those scheduled to play both will perform different sets to keep things diverse. First-wave announcements of both lineups will be released before the on-sale date. Read the full statement here.

THUMP tripped to the most recent Electric Forest, which took place from June 23-26 with headliners Bassnectar, Major Lazer, and The String Cheese Incident; and supporting artists including Fetty Wap, Tchami, Anna Lunoe, Dusky, Kamasi Washington, and Nick Monaco. We asked attendees for their opinion on the Her Forest campground and scouted the most creative totems.
