Local Islington Newspaper Claims Fabric Might Reopen in the Near Future

Reports allege advanced talks between the club and Islington council, ahead of the November appeal date.

Now, we're trying not to get too excited, but a news story published earlier today by the Islington Tribune has hinted that the much loved, and sorely missed, London venue fabric might—and we're stressing this is a proper, actual might—be reopening in the near future.

In a story headlined "EXCLUSIVE: Deal to reopen Fabric at advanced stage after secret talks over nightclub's future", the Tribune's Koos Couvee and Joe Cooper claim that lawyers representing both Fabric and Islington council have been in talks over a licensing agreement that'd allow the club to open it's doors once again, noting that "a deal could be reached as early as next week if the parties are able to get a judge at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court to rubber-stamp the agreement."

While they go on to state that neither side is currently prepared to make a statement ahead of the appeal set to take place on November 28, they've also said that neither side has denied that those talks are taking place. Cameron Leslie, the club's co-owner, is reported as saying, "I'm not at liberty to say whether [discussions] are being had or not."

Fabric have, it is believed, set out 32 new licensing conditions which they argue will allow the club to operate at a "gold standard" should their currently revoked license be reinstated. The alleged conversation taking place between Leslie and the rest of the fabric team, and the opposition in the council's licensing board, is, the Tribune report, par for the course. "It is common," they say, "in licensing cases for the opposing parties to agree a deal before it comes to court," before adding that "the move would save both parties thousands of pounds in legal fees."

While this isn't clear and direct evidence that the Farringdon venue will once again become the heart of London nightlife, we'll take any positive sign we can at this point.
