Minor Leaguer Ends Game on Over-the-Shoulder Bare-Handed Catch

Tigers prospect Dixon Machado made a sliding, bare-handed catch to end the game.

Dixon Machado had himself a pretty good night for the Toledo Mud Hens on Monday. The Tigers prospect collected three hits against the Indianapolis Indians and then ended the game on this sensational catch. Looking like David Wright before a lifetime of service on terrible Mets teams broke his back (and spirit), Machado ranged from shortstop to no-man's land in short left field and made a sliding, over-the-shoulder, bare-handed catch. That's a lot of hyphenated descriptors, but they are all necessary. Wright's one-handed lunge might have had the greater degree of difficulty—he had to lay all the way to get it—but that might just be because Machado made it looks so damn effortless and graceful.
